As the temperatures continue to rise across much of the country, many people are starting to think about warm summer days spent outside in their backyard. When daydreaming of warmer weather, why not imagine yourself in a high-quality, comfortable and beautiful patio chair? In order to make that dream a reality, here’s three things to look for in patio furniture before jumping on the web or heading to the store so you get the best deal on patio furniture.
1. A Quality Manufacturer

You wouldn’t buy a car made by a company that no one had ever heard of, would you? The same rule goes when buying furniture for your backyard. If you plan to keep your furniture for any length of time and have it last, go with a company that has been around for a while. They will have more products to offer, a better warranty guarantee, and higher quality materials.
2. High Back seating
When comparing patio furniture sets, make sure you are comparing apples to apples. One way that big box stores will try to pass off lower-quality patio furniture by selling “half-back” sofas and chairs. What is “half-back” mean in terms of patio furniture? Exactly what it sounds like. They backing on the chairs and sofa only goes up halfway. This means that when lean back in your seat, you’ll end up leaning over the back of your chair back. It’s not nearly as comfortable as a high back or full back seating. Make sure when comparing furniture sets that you’re looking at high back furniture sets. You’ll be glad years down the road when your favorite seat in the house is outside on the patio!
3. Fabric

Patio furniture’s fabric is the most important feature on your furniture set. It’s the first thing guests will notice and the last thing they will forget. You can completely make your backyard feel like your “own” when you select a fabric color and pattern that fits your style. The important fact about high quality fabric is that it will feel just as comfortable and look just as great years down the line as it will the day you get it. Don’t just pick a patio furniture set for cushion color, but pick it for style and quality too.
These are three things that we think you should consider before shopping for patio furniture this Spring. What other things did you consider when looking for your patio furniture set? Let us know what you think!

So you moved into your dream house and realize that even though the indoor space is all you’ve ever wanted – the same cannot be said for your small backyard. There’s a common misconception that the quality of a backyard can be measured purely by its square footage. We, however, already know that the best things come in small packages – and your backyard is no exception to that rule. The key is taking advantage of the space you do have, and knowing what to add to make the most of it. Here are 4 easy things to add to your small backyard that are sure to bring big fun.
1) Outdoor Ottomans. If your space is too small to accommodate traditional lawn chairs or a dining table & chair set, consider investing in 2-4 square all-weather ottomans. The open design of these cubed-shaped seats encourages easy sharing, allowing even the smallest of spaces to fit all of your close friends and family. Ottomans can be easily stacked out of the way when not being used, giving you the flexibility to use your small space for a variety of activities. Many ottomans also come with removable tops, turning their hollow centers into ample storage space for garden tools or any of your outdoor items.
2) Outdoor speakers: These days you don’t need turntables to play the party disk jockey – all you need is an iPod and some wireless speakers. There are many affordable options for outdoor speakers, and with a small space you’ll be in top shape with just one or two. Wireless outdoor speakers can be installed directly onto the side of your home, freeing up your already limited floor space. Looking for an added bonus? Attaching speakers to the side of your home ensures that these electronic devices are safely out of the way of spilled drinks and accidental kicks.
3) Gas Fire Pit Table: While you might spend more time in your backyard than any room inside your house during the warm months, it’s “see you next spring” for most with the first gush of cool fall air. Extend your backyard season by adding a Gas Fire Pit Table. These tables don’t just add a unique and unexpected design element to your backyard; they provide a safe, clean, and effective way of keeping you and your loved ones cozy with their unique blue flames. They don’t produce any ashes, embers or soot so there’s virtually no cleanup! Certain brands also give you the option of using propane or natural gas.
4) Bistro Table: Bistro tables are a great compromise when there’s no room for a full dining table, but you’d still like to enjoy a sit down meal from time to time in your backyard. These small bar-height tables provide just enough space for two full place settings, and generally come standard with two bar stools. For larger parties store the stools out of the way and use your bistro table as a buffet for your hors d’oeuvres or bar area for cocktails and mixers. Bistro tables are generally light weight and can also be easily moved (along with the chairs) if the occasion calls for it. If you decide to keep your table out at all times, the tall design also allows for easy storage underneath.
With the right pieces it’s easy to turn your small backyard into a magical oasis, whether you live in the country or have a small city yard. These four unique additions will bring comfort, character and function to your space. Make lasting memories with your friends and family – and not to mention a lasting impression on your neighbors – by adding these fun pieces to your backyard.

When my fiance and I began to plan our wedding this Spring, I began to understand why little girls start dreaming up their weddings before elementary school; because of the massive amount of detail to the event. While I’m letting her handle all the finer points (like the difference between deep purple and plum color bridesmaid dresses) I have started to think of the other things people remember about weddings. Usually it’s not the color of the candles around the room or the table cloths, but things like the stories shared about the couple after the reception over a glass of wine. Since this is what I remember from weddings, I looked for something that could bring people together outside on the September night of our wedding.
I love being outside on a warm fall night with my fiancé, and that’s one of the reasons we picked a September date for our wedding. Having the reception at a place we could go outside was important to us, so we picked classic style club house overlooking the course. One thing I’m looking forward to having on the deck of the clubhouse is a gas fire table. The more I’ve looked into these particular fire tables, the more I’ve wanted one at our wedding reception. It looks classy but is a fun and interesting centerpiece for guests to mingle around after dinner. One idea we had for the fire pit is to set up some comfy chairs to sit around it in and then have a bag of marshmallows for the kids (or adults!) to roast over the flame.
Since we have 3 different colors for our wedding, we could mix in those colors into the fire glass on the table to add a personal touch for the evening. Another fun idea to do with the fire glass would be to spell out the date or our names in glass in the gas burner. One would be great to sit around with guests on a beautiful fall night. Since the deck on the clubhouse is larger, we could have a couple of different fire pits on the deck so more people could migrate outside. Since the fire pit would run on gas, no one will leave smelling like smoke or get dirty in the ashes. Anyone who has set up decorations at a wedding knows it could be a nightmare if it’s too complicated, but a fire table is so simple to set up we won’t waste any time while we decorate.
I would love to look back on our wedding and see photos of people mingling, laughing and relaxing on a beautiful fall night. My fiancé and I both hope to have a classic wedding that people we will remember for a long time, and will have had a full night of enjoyment. Gas fire pits would be an awesome addition to a wedding reception, something people will remember sitting around for years to come!

Sometimes when planning out an outdoor space, there are too many options and not enough ground rules. When getting inspired remember to think about what may work for your space and only your space. The outdoors can have a dramatic effect on how we use the space. If your backyard is a total blank canvas and has no preset design elements, think of how you would like to use the space and what you would do most in the space. For example, if you are thinking that you will use it as a retreat like setting set up areas for reading, listening to music or simply relaxing. If you think that you may entertain, make sure to incorporate seating through the use of a traditional table and chairs or around a fire pit table. This will ensure that your guest will have a comfortable spot to rest when they enjoy your yard. On the other hand, if you have children and need a play area for them as well, build a sand plot inside a planter like shape along the wall of your fencing. This will prove to be a very flexible spot for when they grow, you can focus on growing that garden you always wanted. Whichever direction your design goes, make sure to think about the use of space beforehand. This will ensure that you and your guests will enjoy your new outdoor space now and hereafter.

Simply incorporating seating and a table with a covering or accessory can create a basic outdoor space. If you are looking for more than just a standard, basic, simple space you should make a list to make sure that you are getting all of the touches to the space that you want. The first area to think of is the ground cover and material used. If your outdoor space has a basic concrete area, think of creative ways to make the space feel more like an indoor space. One way is to incorporate an outdoor rug into the setting to give it a warmer, cozier feel. Another way to add color into the space is by staining the concrete. Choosing a pattern, such as a large diamond pattern, will give the space color as well as adding a motif and room like quality to your outdoor space. Next, think of the ceiling or covering that is going to be above the outdoor area. Shop for outdoor, rustic pieces that give the space some flair. Chandeliers and other fancier lighting give a formal feel to what was a boring, basic space. After addressing the space above, think about creating faux walls by hanging outdoor curtains that can easily open and close, giving flexibility to the space. Hang outdoor fixtures and wall pieces to the side of your home or outdoor walls to create a memorable scene. Last, but not least, choose comfortable furniture that is easy to clean and made from durable fabrics. Nowadays, furniture for an outdoor space can look almost exactly like your favorite couch that’s inside your living room. Make sure to shop around for the best prices and always find something that works for both you and your guests. In the end, you will have an amazing outdoor space that you can enjoy for years to come.

Shopping for outdoor furniture can be quite the experience when you aren’t sure what details should and shouldn’t be included. When looking at furniture, decide your aesthetic and determine your style that you are going for before heading out and looking. Also consider the style and shape of any additional accessories, such as fire pits or fire pit tables. This will narrow down your options dramatically.
Once you have decided the style and look that you are want, start with the Internet for your search. This will shorten your list of stores in your area that have the styles that you like. It is important to make a through list of each store return policy and any possible extended warranties on the furniture.
When you have started to shop, be sure to take photos, color swatches if available and measurements. This will allow you to return home without making any impulse buys and make a logical and reliable decision on your choice. Most importantly, when you are finished shopping and are ready to make that final purchase, remember to go online and look again before going to a store. Sometimes the best pricing is going to be found at an online store. Plus if you have gone to the store and tested the furniture in advance, you know exactly what you will be getting for a more affordable price.

Building, remodeling and starting in on renovations can be haphazard to your sanity and your budget if not done correctly. When planning your renovations, think of what the overall budget is that you are working with and stick to it! The key is planning ahead, putting money aside and even afterwards, having an extra stash of money just in case things really get out of hand. You will thank yourself afterwards if you end up with more money in your pocket than what you had originally planned for.
One of the main things that should be thought of is the overall cost of the elements that you are choosing to put in your outdoor space. Elements such as fire pits or fire pit tables, for example, have a gigantic price range and finding one that fits your budget is important.
Most gas fire pits tend to be a better choice if you are budget conscience. Plus they also are less upkeep than traditional wood burning fire pits. That being said, if you aren’t planning on using your fire pit every week to every other week and only want to use it for special occasions, a wood burning fire pit might be a better choice. You only have to use wood once in a while and this can be a major cost saver in the long run.
Other elements such as fountains and small ponds also have a broad price range, but like the fire pits each model or kind is also going to have a set up keep that needs to be performed in order to maintain a good overall water quality, fish life period and more.
A good tip is to keep a list when shopping of all the prices that you see, whether it be in store or online. That way you can reflect on the pros and cons of each model and type of element. Taking these factors into consideration will nearly guarantee that the price will always be in balance with the quality and lifespan of your outdoor space’s elements and features.

When it comes to designing a backyard, many people have a hard time imagining an outdoor space that is both economical and professional looking. There are a few modern elements that can really bring the space together. Purchasing outdoor furniture with a simple scheme and accenting them with outdoor curtains can really bring a home like feeling into the yard. Having an outdoor fireplace or fire pit can also make a modern statement. Most outdoor furniture and fire tables can be made to reflect your sense of modern taste, so be sure and seek out those particular pieces. Modern furniture can be somewhat hard to find, as well as modern fire pit tables, but to find them; you must look at retailers with fairly wide selections. The most important thing to take into consideration when building a modern backyard with a fire pit is to consider the fire pit table and it’s size in relation to the furniture. Larger fire pit tables with the modern feel are meant to be paired with larger scale sofas and maybe even a large umbrella for shade in the summer time. A small-scale fire pit table is an easier choice for many because it is easier to clean and maintain during those months that it’s not in use.
