Tips for Buying an Outdoor Fire Pit Table

Founded more than a decade ago, All Backyard Fun was one of the first online casual furniture stores selling fire pit tables, drop in burners and fire glass long before they became a household name.

Today, with many options to buy an elegant fire table or build your own fire pit, the shopping experience can be overwhelming at times. And many of the customers we work with may not consider what they will like or don’t like until after they received the product.

Our mission is to help you decide on a fire table that you and your family will love for years to come. Here’s a few tips we suggest when considering your first (or next) fire pit:

  1. BTU Output: The British Thermal Unit or BTU is what measures how much heat your fuel source can put out. Some of our fire tables put out up to 90,000 BTU’s whereas our Crossfire brass burners can put out in excess of 450,000 BTU’s. YoungLife_Golf_gave_away_a_gas_fire_table
  2.  Fuel Source: Wood, Propane or Natural Gas? All of the fire tables we offer have the capacity to work with standard 20# propane gas tanks or you can run your own natural gas line.  For those considering a wood burning fire pit, it’s important to know that wood produces embers and in many cities where they have hazards and danger of wildfires, these type of open flame options are not permitted because you cannot control the flame size like you can with your fire table. Also, wood burning pits produce soot and the smell gets into your clothing and the smoke is not good for children or people with upper respiratory infections.NaturalHammeredCopperFireTable
  3.  Building Material: If you are building your own fire pit stone and brick are the most common finishing material. However, it is important to note what is in your surrounding – materials and colors. Stone and brick are low maintenance and made to be outdoors. For pre-made fire tables, we offer other options such as granite fire tables, hammered copper and cast aluminum depending on what type of look you are seeking.gasfiretablesvanahstone-copy
  4. Fire Media: The “fire media” is the term given to the special material such as lava rock, eco glass beads, tumbled fire glass or faux wood burning logs that you use to fill the burner of your fire table. The fire media helps to further define the look you are going for such as rustic or contemporary.Oriflamme Blue Pearl Fire Table
  5. Height: The height of your table largely depends on application. Standard coffee table height is about 21 ¾” which makes it conducive to having friendly conversation while seating and eating. This is also an ideal height if you just want to sit around your pit in some low seating chairs such as the classic Adirondacks.  You can choose or build a higher pit but take into consideration your fuel source type; ease of maintenance; if it is suitable for conversation to others standing on the other side of the fire pit; and if the heat output will be sufficient.OriflammeTablewithMarshmallows6. Location: Where will you put your fire pit? Depending on your fuel source, it may be a permanent fixture. All of our tables we offer at All Backyard Fun have the capacity to use propane and be converted to natural gas later. This is an important consideration if you are still in the process of redesigning your outdoor living space. However, not all fire tables in the market offer this capacity.Terrace Curved Sectional

Why We Love Black Friday

Why We Love Black Friday

At All Backyard Fun we are counting down to outdoor patio furniture specials from all our favorite collections including Northcape International, Polywood, Oriflamme and Desert Steel outdoor accessories among others!

Dating back to the early 1930’s, Black Friday was the name given to the first major shopping day for Christmas (which falls the Friday after Thanksgiving). This is the shopping day of the year where most businesses earn their first positive revenues or go from the red to the ‘black’ in their accounting.

Thus it is a popular ritual now where retail stores and online e-tailers are known to offer their most aggressive discounts and sales of the year. ‘Tis the season of buy one get one’s, half off’s, free give-aways, and doorbuster deals.

BLUE PEARL

The savviest shoppers have been researching and planning what they’re going to buy and who they’re going to buy it from. It’s no secret e-commerce has driven retailers to compete with one another to offer consumers ridiculously great sales during the holidays.

Nowadays, .com retailers fight to get their sale out first. For example, Black Friday no longer starts on the Friday after Thanksgiving, instead it starts the Friday before Thanksgiving. So, if you’re an online retailer you better have your sales ready to go, or you’ll be scratching your head when you don’t meet your holiday sales goals.

home-and-garden

We love Black Friday because offering aggressive deals also helps to minimize our store inventory. This in turn helps us lower our overhead and the inventory we will have to do at the end of the year! So for specialty furniture stores like All Backyard Fun this time of season is our ‘slow season’ and the sales offers allows our customers to pick up some of their favorite patio sets and outdoor furniture pits at a great deal. And we are able to make space for everything that will be offered for the spring of the next buying season.

For obvious reasons, sales have slowed compared to in-season sales. Depending on location, most people in the country aren’t buying or even thinking about outdoor furniture during the winter.

Regardless of the time of year, All Backyard Fun is a  small family owned business and always working to offer the best products at the best prices that we believe your whole family will enjoy. That’s why we love Black Friday!

It is the time of season we can offer our customers unbeatable prices on patio furniture, fire tables, and backyard accessories like we never have before. So don’t fret, All Backyard Fun has your patio covered this year with amazing doorbuster deals you won’t find anywhere else!

15 Reasons We Love the Oriflamme Fire Pit Table

As the country’s first and leading distributor for the Oriflamme Fire Pit Tables, the team at All Backyard Fun has gained extensive experience in product information, sales, technical support and installation since it’s introduction to the market more than a decade go.

The introduction of the Oriflamme Fire Pit Table was the first of its kind bringing outdoor elegance together with the concept of ‘designed fire’. The patent pending burner and vibrant colored fire glass added additional options to personalize the tables to the customer’s reason or season.

While many fire pit tables, none have been able to quite effectively compete with the ingenuity and beautiful design of the Oriflamme Fire Pit Table.

OriflammeBenefits

ORIFLAMME FIRE TABLE FEATURES & DIFFERENTIATORS:

In addition to the reasons featured in the photo, here are 15 MORE reasons why we love Oriflamme Fire Pit Tables and hope you will love them too!

  1. It will warm you up! The Oriflamme fire pit table not only provides a beautifully designed piece of furniture, it actually produces warmth. Oriflamme is truly one of the ‘hottest’ tables on the market with a heat source of up to 75,000 BTU’s
  2. Coffee Table height. You can sit down comfortably and enjoy conversation with friends and it will work complimentary (design & functionality) to most outdoor patio sets. Coffee table height table is 21 3/4 inches.
  3.  Long burn time. The burn time lasts an average of 16-18 hours on high with two tanks (but can last up to 35 hours depending on outdoor conditions and flame height)
  4.  Adjustable flame change the height from low to high for warmth or ambiance
  5. Heat comes from the bottom – and why does this matter? Because if the heat comes from the bottom of the table and it rises – the warmth will be felt at the level in which you are seated. Other fire pit tables heat from the top meaning the fire warms ‘the sky’ and not you (unless you are standing and slightly tilting toward it).
  6. The tanks are neatly contained inside the table – The tanks are not external and therefore need to be hidden because they are unsightly. (see our video below that outlines how and where the tanks are stored)
  7. Easy to assemble (No tools are required) – You can have your fire pit set up and ready to go in minutes
  8. Easy Off Switch – Designed with hidden switch (push and ignite the flame to light and simply turn off when you are done).
  9. Table components are interchangeable – If there are any problems you can fix that part without worrying about having to send your entire table in to be serviced.
  10.  Natural gas component kit available – This fire pit table uses 2 propane tanks but if you want to customize it and run natural gas to it that is an option as well
  11. Hoses are available for larger remote propane tanks
  12. MADE IN THE USA! Oriflamme Fire Pit Tables are proudly made in the midwest United States and each table is handcrafted and made to order.
  13. SUSTAINABLE With Proven Market! The Oriflamme Fire Pit Tables are here to stay. They have been on the market for more than a decade and are not a seasonal or limited production table. They have a classic timeless look and will hold up for years to come. You can find product reviews easily online and rest assured knowing that if any problems occur with the table you can call the manufacturer and obtain replacement parts with ease.
  14. Clean & Elegant Design – Many customers love the clean and elegant design. Whether you invest thousands of dollars on your outdoor living space or you want your patio to look like a million bucks, the Oriflamme Fire Pit Table has a very classy design. It is constructed of the highest quality and the powder coat has a 7 year warranty against rust so it is made to withstand the elements year round!
  15. Trusted by Major Brands – The Oriflamme Fire Pit Table has been sold worldwide. We have customers from Southern California to Sweden (yes, we ship worldwide)! And they have been used in commercial settings everywhere. From the Boulder (Colorado) Country Club to the Ritz Carlton and W Hotel in Scottsdale, Arizona, if it meets their high quality standards we certainly hope and expect it will meet yours!

Recycle Christmas Tree

5 Ways To Recycle Your Christmas Tree

It’s the sad time of year again where using the holidays as an excuse to exempt yourself from reality has expired.  It’s time to answer the email from Janice in accounting, and get back on track with real life. The beautiful Christmas tree in the corner of your family room that majestically transformed your entire house in to a winter wanderlust? Yeah, that has to go. Sad face. So what do you do with the tree you and your family decorated so elegantly? Here’s some ideas!

  1. Rinse, Re-use, Recycle! – Plant that guy right back where he came from. Of course it has to be a living tree with the roots still intact, but channel your inner hippie and enjoy your tree for many more years to come.
  2. Give back to Mother Nature – She has provided you with a glorious tree, now it’s your turn to give back to Mother Nature, and her animal friends. A nice way to get rid of your Christmas tree is by turning it in to a bird feeder. You can put it in the ground, or stay lazy and keep it in its stand. Get the kids involved – make a cranberry and popcorn string, toss some stale bread in and around it and… BOOM! You’ll have chickadees, cardinals, song sparrows, and many other birds of kin taking shelter in your backyard.
  3. Garden galore – Cut off the branches, and use the trunk to edge the garden you’ve been planning for so long now. Hello 2016 garden goals!
  4. Cozy on up – Feeling self-sustaining? Chop the tree up and use it as fire wood, duh!
  5. Recycle the boring way – Many communities will have tree-recycling programs. This is a nice way to give back to your community, as the program will chop the tree up and probably use the wood for parks and public spaces.

Gas Fire Pit Or Wood Fire Pit?

When choosing a fire pit for your backyard it’s important to do your due diligence and understand the differences between a wood fire pit and a gas fire one. While there are many factors that should influence your decision, we have found that gas fire pits are overall cleaner, easier to maintain, and most importantly – safer.

If you’re looking for a quick and easy solution, a do-it-yourself wood fire pit can be made from most soft ground by simply digging a deep hole, placing pieces of chopped and dried firewood, adding some lighter fluid and lighting a match. A better option than this would be to purchase a wood fire pit bowl for a more sophisticated fire experience, but while these solutions allow you to create a fire quickly and without much planning, there are numerous health and safety risks you’ll assume with a wood fire. Wood fire pits are also less customizable and aesthetically pleasing than their gas fire counterparts.

First and foremost, any wood fire pit has the potential to burn out of control and cause a huge risk to your fire safety. Burning wood creates embers that can float away from your fire pit. Embers landing on your skin can cause painful burns, potentially even leaving scars. They can also float away onto combustible material and quickly spread the fire from your contained wood fire pit to a larger and unmanageable area that quickly gets out of control. Wood fires also create billows of smoke that can sting your eyes, and the ever-shifting wind guarantees that no seat is safe from this smoke.

If you do, however, decide that a wood fire pit is best for your needs, make sure that it’s made from a high-quality metal such as copper or bronze. Many models even come standard with a spark screen to prevent flying embers, which is a no-brainer when it comes to safety.

If you’ve done the research and are ready to make a commitment to this exciting purchase, you’re sure to agree that a gas fire pit is worth the investment. There are so many added benefits with this type of fire pit that you just can’t find with a wood one.
The best part of gas fire pits is that many offer you the option of using natural gas, which gives a 99% clean burn.

Gas fire pits offer a clean and effective way to enjoy the warmth and beauty of fire without any of the health or safety hazards of a traditional wood fire. No need to fear flying embers or burnt pieces of wood. Another feature you’ll only get with a gas fire pit is the high-to-low control knob conveniently placed on the side. This allows you to control the heat output, ensuring that your fire is always 100% perfect for you and your family.

When you’re evening has ended and its time to go to sleep, simply turn the control knob all the way down to immediately shut off the flames. No more hauling heavy water buckets to extinguish the flames! Your fire can now be shut off with the simple touch of a button.

Another added bonus of a gas fire pit is that it doubles as a beautiful piece of art when not being used. An idle gas fire pit brings class and sophistication to any space, and offers a unique way to customize your home. We offer a variety of options for all styles and tastes, including large stones and mosaic patterns. Oriflame fire tables even let you completely customize the design, from shape to color to stones!

Natural Gas Fire Pit Tables

Gas fire tables are already a massive improvement in convenience compared to their wood-burning fire pit relatives, but did you know that you can convert an Oriflamme Gas Fire Table to natural gas? Natural gas has gained popularity in recent years due to the convenience and growing-availability of it. Grills, pools, hot tubs, spas and fireplaces can all be heated with natural gas, and now so can your favorite fire table. With a simple conversion piece, the Oriflamme is one of the easiest conversions to natural gas on the market.

Want to see how easy  it really is? Watch this video to see!

We here at All Backyard Fun always recommend using a local gas professional to install and hook up your natural gas fire pit table. A professional will have the knowledge and expertise to help you hook up you fire table to natural gas.

Decorating My Wedding with Gas Fire Pits

When my fiance and I began to plan our wedding this Spring, I began to understand why little girls start dreaming up their weddings before elementary school; because of the massive amount of detail to the event. While I’m letting her handle all the finer points (like the difference between deep purple and plum color bridesmaid dresses) I have started to think of the other things people remember about weddings. Usually it’s not the color of the candles around the room or the table cloths, but things like the stories shared about the couple after the reception over a glass of wine. Since this is what I remember from weddings, I looked for something that could bring people together outside on the September night of our wedding.

I love being outside on a warm fall night with my fiancé, and that’s one of the reasons we picked a September date for our wedding. Having the reception at a place we could go outside was important to us, so we picked classic style club house overlooking the course. One thing I’m looking forward to having on the deck of the clubhouse is a gas fire table. The more I’ve looked into these particular fire tables, the more I’ve wanted one at our wedding reception. It looks classy but is a fun and interesting centerpiece for guests to mingle around after dinner. One idea we had for the fire pit is to set up some comfy chairs to sit around it in and then have a bag of marshmallows for the kids  (or adults!) to roast over the flame.

Since we have 3 different colors for our wedding, we could mix in those colors into the fire glass on the table to add a personal touch for the evening. Another fun idea to do with the fire glass would be to spell out the date or our names in glass in the gas burner. One  would be great to sit around with guests on a beautiful fall night. Since the deck on the clubhouse is larger, we could have a couple of different fire pits on the deck so more people could migrate outside. Since the fire pit would run on gas, no one will leave smelling like smoke or get dirty in the ashes. Anyone who has set up decorations at a wedding knows it could be a nightmare if it’s too complicated, but a fire table is so simple to set up  we won’t waste any time while we decorate.

I would love to look back on our wedding and see photos of people mingling, laughing and relaxing on a beautiful fall night. My fiancé and I both hope to have a classic wedding that people we will remember for a long time, and will have had a full night of enjoyment. Gas fire pits would be an awesome addition to a wedding reception, something people will remember sitting around for years to come!
